Building better, from the start.
An approach that goes beyond the surface.
For Philippe, Toundra’s founder, construction was never simply a career choice, it was a legacy to be reimagined. As the son of a cabinetmaker, he was raised with a profound respect for wood, craftsmanship, precision, and the value of work done well. Two decades into his career, that same sensitivity continues to shape every Toundra home.
Driven by a growing awareness of the environmental impact of the construction industry, Philippe set out to redefine the way homes are built. In 2019, Toundra was created, not as another builder, but as the realization of a conviction: that exceptional, sustainable, high-performance homes can be built without compromise.
Two perspectives, one shared commitment to excellence
At Toundra, every project is shaped by two complementary minds.

Sustainable home
From conviction to action.
The Laurentians are more than a place where we build high-performance homes, they are our territory, our source of inspiration, and our home. A place shaped by mountain landscapes, where the outdoors is woven into everyday life and where tranquility is a treasure to be protected. Building here means embracing an added responsibility: preserving the qualities that make this region exceptional, one thoughtfully designed home at a time.
Handing over the keys to a sustainable home is the moment when every decision, every detail, and every effort finally finds its purpose. It is a quiet pride, the fulfillment of work carried through with care and the privilege of knowing that a new chapter begins in a place we helped create.
Every project begins
with an honest conversation.
FAQ
Choosing Toundra means placing your project in the hands of a team whose expertise is both certified and proven through years of hands-on experience. Our subcontractors are carefully chosen for their reliability, expertise, and commitment to quality. Every project receives personalized support and complete transparency throughout the entire journey, from the initial consultation to the moment you receive the keys.
A Toundra home is defined by the balance between its distinctive architectural identity and exceptional technical performance. Every project is an opportunity to raise the standard: materials chosen for their character and longevity, some of the industry’s most demanding certifications, and a design approach created to endure over time, in both form and function.
Living in a Toundra home means experiencing a healthier, quieter, and more comfortable environment year-round, free from the temperature swings and humidity variations often associated with conventional construction. It is also a long-term investment: a high-performance building envelope helps reduce energy costs while protecting the value of your home over time. Above all, it is the pleasure of living in a space thoughtfully designed in every detail, a home that adapts to your life, not the other way around.
Ideally, we recommend reaching out before your plans are developed. The best approach is to begin with an integrated design process alongside our team of designers, technologists, and architects, so every decision aligns with your vision, performance objectives, and budget. However, we can join your project at almost any stage. Whether your plans are underway or already finalized, we bring the same thoughtful guidance and attention to detail.
A custom-designed home ensures that every space, every detail, and every material selection is thoughtfully aligned with what matters most to you. It is also a more intelligent investment: by optimizing the building envelope, orientation, and systems from the outset, we minimize costly adjustments down the road. The result is a one-of-a-kind sustainable home, high-performing, enduring, and designed to appreciate in value over time.
Yes, and the results are measurable. Our homes are designed using low-impact materials chosen for their longevity and lower carbon footprint. When combined with a building approach optimized for long-term performance, these choices help reduce the carbon footprint by nearly 30% compared with conventional construction (source: Ecohabitation).
The results are clear: after a full year in their LEED Platinum-certified home, one of our clients experienced energy consumption 50 to 70% lower than a comparable home, along with significantly less reliance on wood heating than expected. This performance is made possible by a highly efficient building envelope and a design that allows the home to naturally regulate heat. Building better means building with the generations to come in mind.
As a certified eco-builder, our expertise allows us to guide you toward the industry’s most recognized certifications, including Novoclimat, LEED®, Passive Solar Index, and Passive House. Each certification pathway is carefully chosen to align with your goals, budget, and desired level of performance.
Your home is inspected throughout the construction process by the Garantie de construction résidentielle (GCR). Upon completion, you receive five years of warranty protection administered by the GCR, an independent program covering hidden defects and workmanship issues, giving you lasting peace of mind long after receiving your keys.
Absolutely. We regularly work alongside architects and interior designers. This integrated approach often delivers the strongest results, bringing together creative vision and technical expertise from the earliest stages of the design process. If you have not yet chosen a design professional, we can also introduce you to trusted collaborators with whom we have built strong working relationships.
We primarily serve the Laurentians, within approximately one hour of Val-David. If your project is located outside this area, we welcome you to reach out so we can explore the possibilities together.
